Vienna 2017

I had to start another post because I put those photos in on the last one and then could not type under them!  Anyway, the train ride from Innsbruck to Vienna was long but easy.  And of course once I got to the wonderful Konig von Ungarn Hotel it could not have been better!  I walked in, gave my name and was handed the key to my room.  After all, I think this is the 10th or 11th time that I have stayed here in room 202.
On Friday night I ate at Zum Bettel Student.  I have eaten there before.  I had a salad and a burger and 2 dark beers  then it was off to the sports bar where I watched the end of the Vienna match which they lost.  The place was packed, which always makes it more exciting.  Saturday I went to the Albertina.  The special exhibit was 20th century painters and was actually good.  Every special exhibit is always on the basement level and is always very well done.  The Battliner (?) Collection is upstairs now and on the 1st floor there was a photography exhibit.  I always enjoy going there.  That night I ate at Kern's Beisl.  Usually I have been here in August and they are closed for vacation so it has been a few years since I have eaten there. I ordered a special and it turned out to be meatloaf!  I also had soup and the meatloaf came with potatos.  I drank a pinot noir and then 2 Gosser Dunkles.  After I went to Spankys and had a beer and a metaxa and then came back to the hotel to work on pictures and had the same.
Today I took the ubahn up to Mariahilfe Strasse and went to the furniture museum - always interesting.  They were having a special exhibit in honor of the 300th birthday of Maria Theresa.  I walked back and went to my favorite bar for a pizza at about 3.  Then I came back because I was too tired.

Innsbruck

My stay in Bolzano was marred not only by the hotel fiasco but also by the weather.  It rained every day but the first.  I had some good food and I did get to visit the museum where "Utzi" is.  That is the frozen mummy of the pre-historic man they found in the mountains.  He is the one I did the web-quest on with the pre-calculators.  Other than that, nothing.  When I left, once again, nothing.  Not a question about the stay or a fond farewell.  Of course they did not send an email to poll me about the stay.
The trip Innsbruck was easy and the Hilton there was wonderful!  If possible I am going to make sure I stay in them from now on.  The walk to the Old Town was easy.  There was plenty to see.  I went to the Stadt Museum , only for the toughest, the Goldenes Dachl and museum, the Hofburg and St Jakubs church and the Maxillian Denkmal with the "black" statues.
The most interesting to me was the Hofburg because it had a lot of things to do with Habsburgs that I did not know about till then.  The food was good and not too expensive but again the weather was better but not good.

Munchen3/Bolzano

In my last three days in Munich, I visited the Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek and Egyptian Collection.   All three well worth seeing every time you are in Munich.  The Alte Pinakotek is being renovated so even though the entire building is not open, the bulk of the collection is out.  Certainly the most important pieces.   Of course I had to go to the Cafe after my visit and have a large coffee with one of there delicious cakes!  I have never seen such a selection out side of a bakery and sometimes even there.
I spent the rest of the days strolling and stopping for cool refreshers.  I stopped at Orlando's which is in the same Platz as Hofbrauhaus and the Hard Rock.  Don't go there.  Just not worth it.  Right there next to the Irish Bar is another place, I don't remember the name, where you can sit on the Platz and have a beer.  I also stopped for one at Pshorr.  The restaurant on the edge of   Viktualienmarkt.  I ate here some years ago with Ernest and his 2 friends.  The service was very friendly and efficient even though the beer was a little pricey.
Today, Friday, I took the train to Bolzano, Italy.  I found the hotel and it is lovely but they did not honor the reservation I made for a junior suite!  Seems I did not send them a credit card number so the reservation, even though they confirmed it, does not hold.  Therefore I am sitting in the very pleasant garden enjoying a ravioli lunch and 2 beers waiting for them to give me a single room.  I have a hefty pension check that says the room is not air-conditioned.
Well I am in my non-airconditioned single room.  I wrote to the Innsbruck Hilton to see if I can come early.  I went for a walk and stopped for some wine.  I spoke to the couple next tome for a while - all in german.  So at least I got that.  They wanted my passport to check me in and I gave them a hard time and when I returned from my wine I demanded it back.  The man tried to give me a load but what they fail to understand is that even though german is not my first language I speak it well and can be a nasty old man in german as easily as american.
It seems there is some sort of Fest that will be going on tonight so I will head out for dinner soon, without a nap, and will then participate in the fest.  Hopefully I will have a good time and forget the aggravation.

Munich 2

Today  I went to the Residenz Museem.  I went through the Residenz and through the Schatz Kammer.  The Residenz was different.  There were more parts open and there was no special exhibit.  The Schatz Kammer was the same.  Seeing the Queen Caroline ruby parure is always staggering.
Yesterday I went to the Stadt Museem.  I had never been there.  It was nice and worth a trip but not the kind of collection I could go back to over and over.   What I did notice walking around yesterday and today is that, compared to the summer,  there are significantly fewer people here.  It was nice to go through Marianplatz and not have to fight through massive crowds.
Saturday night I ate at Wirthause am Braunauer.  Very nice and very good.  I had Schweinbraten Krusten which I have not had since Bamberg.  It is pork roast with the fat left on to get crispy.  It came with Kloss which were not as good as the ones in Weimar!  Last night I ate a t Maredo which was the same as always.  Tonight I went back to Al Pino or Tavernetta in the Hildegarde Strasse.  I ate there the last time I was here.  I had a blackboard special which was taglitelli with beef stripes - very good!  I also had a mixed salad which was very large, a red wine for only 3.60 euro, water and coffee.
The weather was a little warmer today and sunnier.  A nice Fall day.

Munchen 2017

I left beleibte Weimar today!  My 2 months there are done.  I took the 9:51 to Naumberg and then changed to a direct train to Munchen.  All in all an easy trip of about 4.5 hours.  I am staying at the Munich City Hilton.  This is the second time I am here and I am staying for 7 nights.  I tried to find the Italian restaurant that I ate in the last time but the place that I thought was it was totally remodeled and unfamiliar.  So I ate in a different Italian restaurant, Bella Italia, which was very good.  My rigatone bolonese was only 5.80 euro!  It is right there when you cross the street by the tram station at Rosenheimer Platz.  The Caprese salat was outstanding!  The half-liter dark Lowenbraus were only 3.60 euro.
I am now in the Hilton Munich City bar.  I am watching the US Open.  Normally I would have been there on opening night but I would rather be here. This is the second time I am staying here and I do like both the hotel and the location.  They are remodeling which may explain the great price I got but I also got a great price the last time.   I have 6 full days and I have one thing to do each day so I am happy.
