Well it happened. I heard from Herr Mueller-Lang and had to tell him that I am not coming to the apartment this summer. I am so sad and really do not know how to deal with it yet. I have been in that apartment every summer since 2010 and since 2017 every summer for 2 months. I spend more time there than most people here spend at their shore houses. Now I can't go. Maybe I can go for a little while in September or October - who knows.
I know that I am being a douche. Most people wish they had such problems. Most people are not riding this out like I am. I understand that but the truth is we all feel the most sorry for ourselves. It is ridiculous that I am writing this. I am fine and will continue to be fine. If I can not spend months in Europe this year I am sure the whole world will be crying for me. Sorry.

Chicago/Weimar 2020
Sadly, due to the pandemic, the trip to Chicago the third week in April is cancelled. Both the airline, United,and the hotel, Hilton London House, had no issues cancelling. It was a sad but certainly necessary step. But Chicago will always be there,
Worse, I received an email from my landlord inWeimar asking what I was going to do. Weimar is under basically the same circumstances we are here in New Jersey. All restaurants, bars, cinemas, etc are closed. They do go a little further in that the regulations do not allow "return" visits. Which basically means if you leave, do not come back. I had to tell him that as it stands now, I am not coming for July. We left it that we would revisit this decision at the end of April.
This is so disappointing I can't say. I am thankful that I and mine are all well but I have not been in the US during July and August for years and years. This is the time of year that I would be planning what I would be doing while there and also thinking about where I would want to be traveling inSeptember. But I still have a lot of hope. I may not get over there for 1 July but I do think I may be able to go for 1 August!

Chicago 2020
I am off to Chicago in April. The hotel is reserved and the plane tickets have been bought. I have never been there but everyone I know who has been there says it is great. So I will be staying at the Hilton London House. The deal was pretty good and the location seems to be excellent. I want to go to the art museum and we are also going to a Cubs game. Other than that who knows. We will be there for 5 nights. I am glad to have a trip before I leave for Germany in JUne!
