Cancun December 2021

Well I am home from my 6 nights in Cancun.  I had a great time.  It was just so nice to be away and to fly on a plane and to stay in a hotel.  I was at El Dorado Casitas Royale.  I was in a Casitas Suite.  It was a big room with a large bathroom area, an outdoor shower, a large indoor, rainshower shower, a balcony with a table and day bed and a private infinity pool!  Granted the pool was not that large, but it was nice anyway.

The grounds of this resort were great.  So well kept!  The people who worked there were also great.  Each area had its own pool and pool-area with a swim-up bar in the pool.  Not crowded at all.  Of course that could be the time of year.  In my area there was also a beach bar that was nice to have near-by.  4-sided bar with 2 sitting areas looking out over the beach and water.

I ate in a different restaurant each of the 6 nights I was there and they were all good.  A grill restaurant, a Thai , 2 Italian restaurants, a Mexican and a "dinner show " restaurant.  The last was unique.  The "show"  was a MC who introduced the chef who showed how to prepare the course you were about to be served.  Then came a sommeliar who told about the wine pairing.  A fun time and great food.

I would definitely return to this resort.  Just lying around in the sun enjoying the peace and food and drink at this time of year was great.

Cancun 2021

It has been a while but I am going to travel again!  I'm leaving in a few days for a 6 night day stay in Cancun.  I have never been there and do not usually go on "beach" vacations.  I will be staying at a luxury, all-inclusive resort and really do not expect to leave the grounds.  There are several different restaurants serving different cuisines and there are bars everywhere.

The room I have booked has a private balcony with a day-bed and a private infinity pool!  I believe it also has a butler for the room.  If that butler can mix a nice martini I may never leave that day-bed except to throw my body into the infinity pool!

Boston II 2021

I am home from Boston.  We took the train from Metro Park to Boston Back Bay station.  It was easy, inexpensive and took about 4 hours.  I would recommend this.  Much easier than driving!

We stayed at the Hilton Downtown/Fanueil Hall.  This is a great hotel and was right in the heart of the area you want to be in to see the sights.  The Covid pre-cautions were fine.  The room is only serviced if you schedule an appointment but it was no problem.  There is no sit-down breakfast or buffet.  In the hotel there is only the coffee shop where they sell breakfast sandwuches and pastries and of course coffee.  I only want coffee in the morning so it was fine with me.   The Staff were friendly and helpful espescially in the hotel bar.  You can go there for a drink but you have to order something, anything, to eat.  Even if it is one oyster.  But they explained it all.

The two best things I did were the Museum of Fine Arts and the Duck tour.  The museum is in a different area and I had to take the metro but it was easy and easy to walk to from the train stop.  The collection is impressive.  It is also nicely laid out and much bigger than I thought it would be.  They  have a nice collection of European oil paintings and a pretty extensive Egyptian collection.  You need to have a ticket before you get there so I had to buy one on my phone once I was there.  But they tried to help me and once I was in and walked into the central info area a man helped me immediately.  I spent almost 2 hours there and it was well worth it.

The Duck tour was a suprise!  We signed up for it on line and didn't really know what it was.  You meet by the Aquarium, which is a couple blocks from the hotel.  It is a re-purposed military vehicle that drives through the streets of Boston and then takes you out on the Charles River!  Our Guide was a woman named Robin and she was great.  It was a basic city tour all around Boston and she knew all the facts and a lot of interesting stories.  The river ride was also interesting and just fun.  This Duck tour was a great morning.

I ate a lot of sea food.  The Legal by the Aquarium is great.  The Capitol Grill was very good and very pricey.  We of course had a beer and a sandwich at the "Cheers" bar.  That was weird because, if you are old enough, you remember the exterior but the interior is nothing like the TV show set.  Good sandwich.  We also enjoyed a pub called Mr. Dooley's.

I was in Boston for 5 nights and it was a fun, interesting trip.  Obviously it was just great to get away again but I would have enjoyed this at any time.  I would go back and I would make sure it was during warm weather so that it would be easier to enjoy being outdoors.

Boston 2021

Good News!   I am going to Boston!  It is a 5 day trip in a few weeks.  It has been so long since I have been anywhere and I am very excited.  We are going to take the train there and will be staying at the Hilton Faneuil Hall which is in the downtown area.  The prices are great.

There are no plans yet about what to do or where to eat but there is time and I want to enjoy all the planning.  Once I get there I will be able to write about the sights and fun etc.
